The Douglas A. Noverr Grant for Collection Enhancement for Institutions to Build Popular Culture and American Culture Research Collections

For 2008, the Endowment Board has decided to award $5,000 for one or more grants. The grant is named for Douglas A. Noverr, who for many years led the Sports Area of PCA and published extensively in that area. He has also been President of the PCA, Director of the Endowment, and Director of International PCA/ACA.

This grant is open to both international and United States institutions. Applicants should complete the application process detailed below and submit it electronically to Michael.Schoenecke@ttu.edu no later than December 15, of the year prior to the national conference. Please note that applicants may apply for only one PCA/ACA grant in any given year.

Applicants must provide a narrative statement of the

  1. overall focus, purpose and scope of the project;
  2. why the collection to be built is significant and how it relates to Popular Culture and/or American Culture;
  3. indicate projected outcomes including who and how individuals will benefit from this collection;
  4. attach the CV's of the project leader and key staff.

Proposals will be evaluated on

  1. quality of the proposed project
  2. extent to which the project reflects and contributes to the study of Popular Culture Studies and/or American Culture Studies
  3. the proposed outcome and use to which the research will be put. Decisions will be reached by the end of January, and the results communicated electronically.

Successful applicants will receive their check in the mail. All funds must be expended within eighteen months. Recipients will be expected to send a two page statement to the Endowment at the end of their project detailing what has been achieved.

To have a proposal considered, please submit your application and supporting material electronically to Michael.Schoenecke@ttu.edu by no later than December 15, of the year prior to the national conference. Please note that applicants may apply for only one PCA/ACA grant in any given year.
